19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard court after March of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.

He rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
